What Are the Vision Sessions?

Have you ever finished editing a photo and thought, “It’s close… but it still doesn’t feel like what I experienced?”

I think every photographer has been there. We know what we felt when we pressed the shutter, but somewhere between the camera and the finished edit, part of that feeling gets lost. The Vision Sessions were created to bridge that gap.

In each Vision Session, I work one-on-one with a photographer using a single image they care deeply about. We don’t rush to the finished result. We slow down and ask questions.

• What is this image really about?
• What does the photographer want the viewer to experience?
• What editing decisions help tell that story, and which ones pull attention away from it?

Together, we build a plan, refine the image, and revisit it until the final photograph says what the photographer hoped it would say from the beginning.  What makes these sessions different is that they aren’t about teaching someone to edit like me. They’re about helping another photographer communicate their vision more clearly.

Sometimes that means making big changes. Other times it means realizing the image is already saying what it needs to say and learning when to stop.

Along the way, something unexpected happened. These sessions became just as valuable for the people watching as they were for the photographer sitting beside me. You’ll hear honest conversations about creative struggles, self-doubt, decision-making, and why every adjustment matters. You’ll see different ways of thinking about tone, color, composition, and light, all through the lens of a real photograph with a real story behind it.

If you’ve ever wanted to understand why an image works—not just how it was edited—I think you’ll find something valuable in the Vision Sessions. My hope is that each session helps you look at your own photographs with fresh eyes and gives you a better understanding of how to turn your vision into something your viewers can truly experience.
