Plotagraph Pro is all kinds of new and Innovative!
It was about a year ago that I reached out to the Plotagraph Pro Team and asked if I might be able to review their software. I was intrigued by the ability to make an animated image from a still photograph. It seemed impossible and too good to be true.
You may have heard of Cinemagraphs, but those aren’t the same as Plotagraphs. A Cinemagraph is usually a video that has some creative masking done to make one part remain perfectly still while another part moves. The important thing here is that it is made from a video but has the still characteristics of an image. A Plotagraph is a still image that is animated to appear like a video. With Plotagprah, you can animate any still photo with endless possibilities.
Last year when I reviewed Plotagraph they were still in the beta testing stage. Now, however, they are a fully functioning product with both a web and desktop (Mac also) application. They have also created a social platform for sharing your newly created Plotagraphs and I have to say, it is gorgeous! I could spend hours just navigating the social platform to see how others animate their Plotagraphs.
Last year there was some (well okay, a lot) of contention around the price point for the software. It was $299 per year which made it nearly inaccessible to hobbyist photographers. Plotagraph listened and now has several options for accessing the software. All of their options are monthly with no contracts. I love that! That is how I operate f.64 Elite. That gives the member the option to come and go as they please and does not lock them into a year long contract.
In this review/tutorial, I am going to show you how I animated this Milky Way photograph and walk you through the gorgeous Social Media Platform.
I honestly wish you would do your thing without promoting products we should purchase because you get a commission …
Selling products takes you away from what your expertise; or, do you need subsidies to survive ???
honestly, these are not affiliate links. I make no money whether someone buys or not. I make 0 commission.
I am showing you this because I like it. Photoshop is not my product, I show you that every week. I make no commission from Photoshop either.
Even if you do, I think it’s perfectly okay considering the time and efforts that you put in. No need to apologize.
I’m one of those old school retirees who reads the whole message before clicking impetuously on a link. This statement is in the email Blake sent:
“P.S. Plotagraph is not paying me to show you this. There are no affiliate links, and I receive nothing from your membership. I just think Plotagraph is innovative and wanted to share another way to be creative with your images. Enjoy!”
Blake’s email stipulates the following:
“P.S. Plotagraph is not paying me to show you this. There are no affiliate links, and I receive nothing from your membership. I just think Plotagraph is innovative and wanted to share another way to be creative with your images. Enjoy!”
And, if a person makes such a statement, in writing, and – especially – if this person is Blake Rudis, I trust it without any doubts!
I really don’t understand some people ….. they obviously don’t know Blake!
Marvin, it looks like you are some very wealthy guy who doesn’t need money and who paid Blake to write content for you.
If it is not true then you are ungrateful man who thinks that people should work for you for nothing and feel guilty for not giving you enough.
Wake up, man! People have families and kids and blogging never feeds bloggers, they have to make some money by affiliating with stores or be paid for advertisers, that’s the reality.
I see what you are saying, but really, I made this because I like the software. Honestly, there was no exchange of any money for this review/tutorial.
Blake, I’m not saying you are taking money from anybody. I’m talking about ungrateful people who’s visiting your blog regularly and, instead of saying “thank you”, trying to teach you how to conduct your business 🙂
Thanks! Well, the community here is so much more appreciative than other places around the web and for that I am very grateful!
I watched this video tutorial with a lot of interest, Blake! When finished, I even acquired the free license and I installed Plotagraph on my laptop to try it at a later time! I always enjoy learning and trying something new in photography, thank you so much for sharing this information, Blake!
I’m in the business of making money from my still photography. I am interested in the opportunities this software has to offer but try to frame it for a gallery show. Useless!
Agreed! However, think about the interactive web experience you could create to grow your social media and gain sales through web site visits.
You can always think outside the box… or the frame in this case!
Oh God Can you please not stop posting good stuff that keeps us up to date on the world of photography.
? haha sorry!
Hi Blake,
Another great video! I really enjoyed learning something new, specially from you. Keep bringing it…we look forward to it.
Blake you are a masterful teacher. Another great video. I was all over the place with Plotagraph trying to get a pretty decent moving image and you’ve highlighted the best way to get the most out of an image.
Plotagraph is an absolute brilliant concept! I’ve been using the free version for a while now and having lots of fun but after seeing this video I’m going back to my fountain images and re do them. 🙂 Thanks heaps
