Live Q&A and Workflow Edit with ON1 Photo RAW
This month I am a guest coach over at ON1 Plus. One of the perks of being a Plus member is the Live Events that we do. They are a mixture of Live Workflow edits and Questions and Answers about the process. This month my focus for the Plus community is on Artistry so I found it more than suiting that I conduct a Live Event focused on Artistic Processing.
Not all images are cut out for Artistic Effects. However there are some that just SCREAM for artistic processing. Before you throw those ones away, be sure to try your hand at some of these artistic effects. I talked to the guys at ON1 and they said it would be okay to share this event with you here. Enjoy!
Thanks for another great tutorial. I’m curious, is there a way in Photo Raw to fix the perspective? In the first image the verticals were not straight. DxO’s software has that feature. Does On1’s?
They do have lens correction and a manual distortion tool that works a treat. My problem was that in the creative process, the straightening of the verticals took away from the interaction with Michael and the knight. the way the photo is without correction exaggerates the idea of looking up and the dream he had in his head when he saw it. I chose not to correct the verticals for artistic reasons.
Children are our greatest works of art, eh? And, our greatest inspiration! This was excellent, as usual! Thank you so much!
They certainly are, my 3 works of art are pretty darn cool! I find a lot of inspiration from them when I let them use my camera. They are so spontaneous with them, I envy it.
Superb webinar. However, thank goodness that it is recorded. Often you move a little fast for me. Being able to go back and replay parts is invaluable.
Thanks! I can move pretty fast, I just can’t hold myself back from jam packing them with information 🙂
Great video. I always learn something new that has a real impact on my photography. One question, why don’t you use Tone & Color in Effects instead of Develop? I would think that having the ability to have masking would make Effects a more effective method.
Rick
Thanks, Rick! I usually use the T and Co Enhancers in Effects only for effect based things. That is because making presets will ensure I do not copy over my develop settings. Also, the develop settings work a bit better on the RAW file than the T and C effects, run some experiments and you will see. I am not sure why, it is beyond my scope of knowledge, it is probably something technical.
As usual, an excellent tutorial, Blake. Tomorrow, I’ll remember maybe 80%, and with the waning of time I will be able to recall only a fraction. Would it be possible for you to have a rough printable outline of your tutorial, so I could fill in the info when I replay the tutorial and apply it to my images?
I know what you mean! Unfortunately, I do not create printouts for these live events because I do them live and on the fly as I am teaching. If you would like rough notes you’d have to create some of your own as I do not have them readily available. Part of the live environment is to make it feel unscripted. Therefore, I only create sticky notes as a guide for myself and nothing tangible for others. Sorry.
