I have found that it is very difficult to shoot a series of bracketed exposures with macro Photography. It is very difficult to worry about getting the perfect brackets when the object you are shooting could move in mere milliseconds depending on the environmental conditions, i.e wind. To get around all that I simply ensure I get the shot, just get the shot in RAW and worry about the tonemapping later. RAW files hold so much information that a great quality single exposure HDR is easily accessible. With the help of Nik Software’s HDR Efex Pro and Tiffen Dfx, a solid single exposure HDR is merely seconds away. Today’s video tutorial will focus on creating a single exposure HDR with a couple of presets already built into both HDR Efex Pro and Tiffen Dfx.

Tiffen Dfx and HDR Efex Pro are in no way affiliated with one another. These are two separate programs made by two different companies, Dfx by Tiffen and HDR Efex Pro by Nik Software. Just wanted to clarify that for all legal intents and purposes (you can never be too safe these days!) Both of which are Photoshop Plugins which is a registered trademark of Adobe, installed on Windows 7… a Microsoft Product… How far do I have to take this???

I’ve been trying single exposure HDR in photomatix and it’s been nasty bad… guess i’m doing something wrong. thanks for the help!
Nah, probably not, single exposure in Photomatix tends to get very messy very quickly. I use that in a pinch when I really have to, there is a lot of resulting noise most of the time. However, the noise reduction capabilities in Camera Raw and Lightroom are pretty impeccable.
