When Two Educators Just Don’t Get Along!
Gavin Hardcastle… what can I say, he is hilarious and really a comedic genius in the Photography community. It is not often that you find someone you can learn from and almost die of a belly laugh in the process. I’d say he is a welcomed breath of fresh air in a community that can often be too dry and lackluster due to the nature of what we do… afterall it is pretty techy and nerdy 🙂
After wacthing hours of his YouTube videos, I felt I just had to get on his channel somehow! So we recently linked up, staged a little troll fight on YouTube, smashed our heads together, and came up with the funniest Photoshop video you will ever see!
Truth is, I have known of Gavin for a VERY long time! He used to write for Digital Photography School several years ago and I would read every one of his articles. I don’t even think he knows that… I sound like a crazed fanboy.
In this tutorial (if we can call it that) Gavin and I have a little fun with our YouTube audiences. We throw some jabs at each other, have some laughs, and produce a photo that may be seen in the Louvre next year, who knows…

I don’t say this lightly at all, Gavin produces some of the best vlogging videos for landscape photographers I have ever seen. They are a combination of comedy and education all bundled up into a beautiful accent. His accent makes me jealous…

Maybe you should have really blew is mind by using ZSE and PE. I can only imagine is comments to that. I think I may have a new channel to subscribe to.
Blake & Gavin–this was quite instructive and very funny!! Thank you both!
Thanks for laughs..my cats were sitting here staring at as I was laughing hysterically. Love you 2 as photogs and instructors.
Funniest photo related Youtube. Laughed through the whole thing. Thanks, guys.
The two of you are hilarious and very strange at the same time. Attending a workshop with ‘you two’ would be informative and a riot.
I started watching this while I was shaving this morning. So glad I did. It reminded me to trim my nose hairs.
You should definitely print this on velvet and send it to Adam. Thanks, Blake. Haven’t experienced tears from laughter in over a month. I needed this.
Hey guys, now that I am through laughing, I have a question: So, where/when is this Oregon Coast Workshop that Blake mentioned (err, challenged Gavin with)? Looked all over, but couldn’t find it (not the coast since that’s easy to find, but the workshop). Since I live in OR, would like to know more.
Not only hilarious – the result reminds me of a Walmart advert for a cult movie version of Lord of the Rings – but it reintroduced me to my old friend Adam Gibbs. I remember climbing with Adam at Smoke Bluffs, Squamish, one wet day in May 1988, when he took me up a set of routes in the rain that I’d have found taxing in the dry. Adam was beautiful to watch – he balanced up everything and made it look easy. I do know he used to hang-glide, so the eagle reference is not too far-fetched. I did know Adam had gone into photography but I didn’t realise he he had gone so far and so high. So thank you on two levels, Blake, firstly for a hilarious Photoshop spoof, and secondly for the link to Adam and his work.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the “Abbot and Costello” of the photographic world. Or maybe the “Dean Martin Jerry Lewis.” Which ever maybe you guys should go on the road. I’d buy a ticket.
That was so funny! You two need to make more videos together.
you two are a hoot. it would be unforgettable to go on a photo shot with you both. wish I could be there have fun
