Winter Waterfall Photography in Missouri
In today’s Vlog I am going to take you on a little winter excursion through the Parkville Nature Sanctuary. We had freezing fog, an odd phenomenon when it is just at the freezing temperature and there is fog in the air. That moisture sticks to everything and freezes.
It was a unique day to go out and shoot. I went to the Parkville Nature Sanctuary to shoot the waterfall that comes out when the water level rises in Riss lake. While it is Winter, we had a lot of rain on this particular weekend which provided enough water to get this little stream going.
I will teach you all kinds of things today. We will discuss the reality of landscape photography, how to use circular polarizers, and how to dress for winter weather when you are out taking pictures.

That is interesting, Ray. It shouldn’t have been that way as that is not how I conduct business. Here is the direct YouTube link: https://youtu.be/o58QD5uR1dk
awesome. I MUST have a pair of those out mittens! My liners are awesome and water proof but my outer mittens are wool and not water proof or easy to remove, etc.,. Yours would be perfect. Thanks for the ‘walk’ in the park, Blake. You know, Photoshop is now a ‘walk in the park’ thanks to you.
Blake, thank you for taking me home for a few minutes. Beautiful. Not often do we get to see the frozen fog gut when we do WOW!
Wonderful! I have always been the type to go out in any kind of weather and shoot photographs. You never know what will present itself. I have had professional photographers tell me put the camera away after golden hour or in bad weather because the light isn’t worth photographing. WRONG! Thanks for validating my thoughts.
Very interesting and nice to watch. Good clothing tips!
Was very pleased to see this wonderful photos in disagreeable weather. I must say, I am usually tempted not to take my cameras in freezing fog, it would be better if I had any single trees to photograph, but our woods are a bit dense and “disorderly”. Nevertheless I shall try next time to find a better motive.
Gloves I have similar ones but not goretex boots.
You certainly know your stuff because your mind is thinking ahead all the time. I enjoy your videos they are very instructive and well presented.
I like the way you find beauty out of nothing.
What make are the mittens?
As a a young boy I would get amazed at the beauty I would get to see when my dad would take me fishing on the warm water sloughs in the midst of winter. Thanks for reminding me as some wonders I can capture. Your videos are great! Courses on F.64 Elite have exceeded my expectations. I always learn something I had no clue was possible. On a side note I am curios about the make/model of the pack you were utilizing in this video.
