This weekend I noticed that my post processing workflow is continuously changing, my style is evolving, and I am working much faster than I was a year ago. I was curious about just how much my style and workflow has changed so I dove into my archives and pulled up an image that I had difficulty with last year around this time. I loved the shot when I took it and thought it would be awesome, however, during tone mapping and post processing I wasn’t feeling it at all. The perfect image to go back to!
I re-tone mapped it in Photomatix, brought it into Photoshop and went to town. This is the type of image that really needed to be broken down into its simplest parts and manipulated individually, you can see that tutorial here. After several adjustments (Noise Reduction, Curves, Levels, High Pass Sharpen, and a couple of creative vignettes) I am more satisfied with this image than I was a year ago.
