While this photo may hold no interest to you as it is simply a picture of a hole in a wall, it holds a lot of nostalgia for me. You see, I took this photo when I was on the way home from Photoshop World. Matt Kloskowski and RC Concepcion had convinced me to start an HDR blog with one of their seminars about blogging and the importance of it. I was invigorated with inspiration, I had ideas coursing through my veins for the blog but had no idea what to call it. Luckily for me, I had an 8.5 hour drive to think about it as I drove to Vegas from Santa Clara, CA.
I found this location around the same time I settled on the name for EverydayHDR. I was tossing names around like, Captured By The Light, HDR Blog, HDR For Dummies, and many more. I settled on EverydayHDR as I felt it the most applicable to my idea for the blog; make a blog for the everyday average photographer that would focus on HDR photography and tutorials to make their work better. Just as I settled on that name I settled my tripod into this location and fired away!
Photo Tip:
Make sure you are metering for the right object when shooting for HDR. I was metered on the wall for this image, which made the wall look great, however, it really blew out the background giving me some really nasty highlight blowouts to deal with. While they don’t completely kill this picture they sure as heck are distracting! I probably should have take a series metered for the sky, and another set metered for the wall and layered them in PS.
