I recently had the pleasure of reading Scott Wyden Kivowitz’ Long Exposure Photography eBook “Time Is On Your Side”. Long before I became and HDR Photographer I spent many nights on the beaches of California shooting long exposure photographs of the ocean sweeping up on the sand. It is a very peaceful time to shoot as no one else is out shooting.
A lot of photographers put their gear away after Blue Hour because the lack of light pushes them away. This is prime time for long exposure photography! Scott does a very thorough job of explaining how to use your camera after dark for long exposure photographs.
Many photographers also do not consider shooting long exposure photographs during the day due to the ample amount of light available. Scott goes into great length about the types of gear necessary to photograph long exposures during the day. From the 3 stop neutral density filters to the 10 stop and all the tips and tricks to get the most out of them.
Scott’s book is a great resource that dispels a lot of the mystery behind long exposure photography. If you are looking for a solid resource on long exposure photography, this may be the book for you.
The image below was a long exposure photograph taken after I had a couple of years of experience in the trade back in 2011. How I wish I would have had Scott’s book earlier, photographs like this would have happened much sooner for me!
As usual, well done.
Thanks,Dick
