It’s October, and as they have been known to do, Adobe has recently updated Camera Raw to version 17 and Photoshop to version 26.  These versions complete the update for Photoshop 2025, moving it out of beta.  The new features are awesome for ACR and lackluster for Photoshop.

It seems Adobe has been focusing most of its resources to Generative AI and the Raw processing engine that powers ACR and Lightroom.  I like to get the updates straight from Adobe.  So I usually head to their blog to get caught up on all things new when they release an update.  Here is Adobe’s rap sheet of updates for Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw, and Lightroom.

As you may know, I don’t use Lightroom in my workflow so I have nothing to report on it.  However, I did make two videos for this year’s major update.  One for ACR and the other for Photoshop.  You can watch the videos below, but here’s the skinny on what’s good in the new updates.

Photoshop
– Minor updates to Generative AI (it’s still not great)
– Remove Tool can detect and remove people and powerlines with one click

Adobe Camera Raw
– Raw enhancement tools can now be applied directly to the RAW file without making a DNG (Raw Details, DeNoise, and Super Resolution) you must toggle a setting for this to take effect.
– A new Adaptive Profile (still in Beta) helps even the tones in your images before moving any sliders.
– New Generative Fill Options in the Remove section (it’s still not great)
