I really dislike commercials, so does my wife. As a matter of fact, every time a show goes to commercial break my wife mutes the TV. She despises how loud they get and how annoying the jingles can be. Despite the annoyance of most commercials, I could not help but notice Bing and their anti-Google. If you haven’t seen one, check out the embedded YouTube video below.
Now I couldn’t help but say, “Wow, they are really hitting Google pretty hard with that one!” But are they really? Are they effectively hindering the empire that Google has built? I went to my Google Analytics to find out. That commercial has been aired for quite sometime so I looked at my Analytics from September of 2012:
Then I took a look at my Analytics for this past month:
The results are pretty striking! From the looks of the Analytics data you may be thinking wow, they have nothing on Google! But think about it from a different perspective!
Look at how they are surpassing the other search engines. Look at their stats compared to Yahoo. It is quite possible that the marketers at Bing headquarters realize they will never take down the Google Empire, however, they could use Google stature to gain leverage on everyone else.
I guess the question is, will anyone out there really be able to take on Google? I love Google products and all that they offer with their philanthropic endeavors. I surely hope they stick around for another 10+ years. From the looks of it, they are not being threatened right now!
Hi,
I was always told you know that a company is in trouble when it starts trashing the opposition.
After watching the extent MS went to to wipe out Netscape it’s kind of nice to see them on the back foot and personally I don’t see too much changing – google’s business model is based around its search engine and data analysis / presentation, MS’s on the other hand is more hard wired to OS & Office solutions.
I guess it also depends on the country you are in – the site I look after is in the UK – http://www.ssacn.org – and 96% of visits come thro’ google; the next 2% thro’ yahoo; 1% thro’ yandex – Bing is in the last 4 who make up between them 1% – strangely enough bing has ‘spidered’ us twice as much as google.
That is interesting to see the vast difference in the UK than the US. Not a surprise that Google is the top 96% though. Thank you for your input in the discussion.
Guys check this out the latest version of Microsoft Bing has been unveiled http://bit.ly/14YtWCd
