Vignettes in Photoshop and ACR + Lightroom
Vignettes are extremely powerful tools for grabbing your viewer’s attention. They can very quickly make an ordinary photo look incredible! But, there are some problems with traditional vignettes.
1. They can look too contrived if not blended well.
2. Traditional ACR or Lightroom vignettes don’t give you a whole lot of control.
3. Sometimes it just looks like a giant ring around your photo.

That is spectacular! I make my own vignettes in PS and when I do white clouds they end being a muddy color. This will definitely cure that issue. I love the concept of changing the vignette color too. Thank you.

Thanks a bunch Blake for another extremely useful methodology and the explanation to make it clear in my mind. I love being able to use a different color gradient instead of the normal black.
Question: At end of video you showed how to change the color of the vignette. You started with blk, then changed to green, then changed to magenta. By making these changes, the blk was gone, the green was gone and that left a magenta vignette. Am I understanding this correctly?
Yep, but it was a very deep magenta, so it had the tonal quality of a dark tone, but the color quality of magenta.

But you do seem to love magenta!
When you have a landscape, where the range of colour is quite limited, say a desert, forest or similar, without extreme colour contrasts, I find using the average colour of the image as the base colour for the vignette can be quite effective.

I really like this way of using a gradient. Is there any way to blur only the gradient layer…possibly selecting it somehow?
