Creating, Applying, Saving and Loading Presets in Adobe Camera Raw!
Adobe Camera Raw, while not known for its creative capabilities, holds a treasure trove of awesome preset possibilities. (Say that 10 times fast!) I was editing some pictures of my boys the other day when I noticed I was getting pretty creative in ACR with the effect. I really liked it so I decided to save it and have a go with it on some other photos. Of course, this led me on a Preset making rampage!
As I was creating these new Presets I discovered something pretty useful. During the saving of the preset in ACR there are quite a few options that allow you to optimize the Preset for use on other images. It can be pretty convoluted at first so I created a video tutorial. Below are the time stamps for the topics covered:
Topic |
Time Stamp |
Creating the Preset: | 00:49 |
Applying the Preset to multiple images: | 03:48 |
Saving a Preset: | 06:00 |
Loading a Preset: | 08:34 |
Did i miss the link for presets, cannot find them with the YOutube link Blake
Hello Micheal, insert your email Id in “Get the Presets” box, inside “Primary Email” field and then the Download button for presets will appear.
thanks! great ideas here- btw i am already an enthusiastic member of the hdr family but i haven’t checked in there recently – i also used the box above to get the presets- was that ok? – hope i haven’t caused u double email registration by doing so – u will make a great master! oh and one of my favorite pizzas is a caesar salad w chix breast on top of the pizza- yum! 🙂
Thanks Alicia! It won’t mess anything up, just trying something new 🙂 Pepperoni here! That’s if it makes its way onto the pizza without Michael and I eating it all while we make it!
Thank you, Blake.
Vinny
You are welcome!
Thanks, Blake ~ once again, very helpful, especially about only saving the settings you want applied to every image. Another mystery unlocked!
Woo hoo! Glad I could help!
Blake – love it! But I need help! I have an iMac and can’t get the presets to show up in ACR. When I tried to save a preset I couldn’t find any way to see the full path. So I did a search for an existing preset in Finder and moved yours to the same folder. But they just won’t show up in ACR, even after closing and re-opening.
If it helps, the path is MyUserName>downloads>NATURALS>ACR Presets.
Thanks so much. I always love your tutorials!
Pat, I’m also on an iMac. This is the path to your settings folder. I just tried it, and Blake’s presets are showing up in ACR for me.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings
By default, the Library folder is hidden in recent versions of Mac OS X. You can make it show by clicking the “Go” menu in the Finder and then holding down the Option key.
Thank you so much, Celeste!! That did the trick. Mac Users take note! 🙂
very interesting! I am sort of stuck recently with making HDR images from a single RAW file, and I am wondering about making a preset for the first pass through ACR.
If I make a default preset with standard settings, I could still edit the image to tweak it from the preset? But the problem I am foreseeing with doing this is some of the setting I make are progressive, building on the previous change and going back to undo something may not be worth the trouble. Thoughts, comments?
Thanks Blake! Great info. I’m already planning the presets I’m going to create.
Sweet! That is great to hear!
Thanks Blake will put them to good use. Mind would like a £ for every time you had to say preset.
Just loaded them…and they are great…I will be using those and the ones I will be creating….Blake thank you so much…you are the best!!!!
Thanks! for the preset tips. This, also, works in LightRoom for those users.
Blake,
Love the presets. thank you very much.
Did you see my website? I would appreciate your comments. And, thanks Celeste for the help with the MAC.
Thanks Vince!
I did check out your site. It looks great! Simple, clean and quick load times. Not to mention some great shots!
I’ve already downloaded your preset but having problem in installing them and using them. Can you please help…??
