It is kind of like the Clarity Adjustment in LR and ACR, with one major exception! They are essentially more localized contrast enhancers, not global ones like clarity and your typical contrast adjustment.

Blake thanks for another timely tutorial. Here is my question. All of my tone mapped files done in Photomatix are saved as TIFFs. I use Elements 11 mostly as a gateway to Topaz. My question is, when I bring the TIFF file in it comes in as a RGB, not a 32 bit file. The only option besides RGB is 8 bit, but it’s frayed out. How do I get a 32 bit file? I do have Lightroom 4, but I don’t use it much. Now with Clarity most of my luminosity issues are taken care of. Again, keep up the great work and continue to write more books.

The Photomatix 32 bit file should not be tone mapped. So in the beginning, instead of selecting “Do Not Show Intermediary file” have Photomatix show you the intermediary file. Just BEFORE tone mapping you will see an ugly photo… that is the 32 bit file from Photomatix. You have to save that, otherwise the tone mapping process will auto output the 32 bit file to a 16 bit file. I did a tutorial on the 32 bit Photomatix process that may help you out a bit!
