Not a Grunge Match… a Grudge Match!

When I was putting together the course Exploring HDR: The Video Series, I had to record a tutorial for every HDR Method I use on a routine basis.  This was kind of a chore for me as I am pretty fond of the Photomatix look as you can tell from the tutorials on the site!  While doing this exercise I processed several images with every method to see just how every image would fair going through the ringer.  I immediately thought I was going to be drawn to the Photomatix one with every example…

Boy, was I wrong!  I found that more often than not I really enjoyed the 32 bit ACR and Single Raw method.  You see, early in my HDR endeavors I would strictly use Photomatix as I was under the influence that was the only “true” method.  Over time I have realized many things about HDR and I am grateful for that.  The Photomatix approach is only one method in a sea of others.

In this “HDR Grudge Match” I put all of the methods against each other over 2 examples.  You will see the images go head to head in a  tournament style “fight”.  Only one method can win!

While this is all in fun, it has a very strong point.  Do not get caught up in your one method!  Venture out into the other methods from time to time.  I guarantee you will be surprised!

Exploring HDR:  The Video Series will be available tomorrow!
