The Color Blend Mode can be extremely powerful

The Color Blend Mode in Photoshop has slowly become my new favorite toy.  I am using it in many more ways than I ever imagined and today I will show you how.  The Artist’s Eye:  A Closer Look will be launching very shortly.  I am still dotting some i’s and crossing some t’s but will be prepared for a full-scale launch on March 16th.  In the meantime, I have some valuable Bonus Content for you!

If you consult with the Adobe help page, you will find the definition for all of the Blend Modes to include Color. The basic idea behind the color blend mode is that it allows the tones from the layers below to show through the solid color. This will leave you with monochromatic images if you are using a solid color fill as your color mode layer. It has many more practical applications that we will get into shortly.

In today’s tutorial, I will show you how to use the Color Blend Mode in 3 very specific ways to make your editing process even more accurate and efficient.  While there are certainly more than 3 ways to use the Color Blend Mode, this tutorial will get you started on how to use it and give you some ideas going forward.  We will be discussing the following concepts.

Wait, before you freak out, you are on a photo site, I am addicted to post processing. To be more specific, I am addicted to workflow efficiency and cracking the codes to complex systems. That's what I do here, crack the code to photo post processing and present it in a concise way, for you :)
