How well do you trust it?
While I was creating the Exposure Merging course for Exploring HDR the Video Series I had to use Photoshop’s auto align layers feature to ensure the layers fell directly on top of each other. Usually Photoshop can do this flawlessly! However, I noticed with several images, that the alignment was off by about an 1/8 of an inch.
It is really annoying when Photoshop does this because it throws your mask off pretty bad when you try to merge the layers. I discuss this in the new course in the Exposure Merging tutorial, but I wanted to tackle it a bit harder today. This is just one of the many new tips you will find in the new series.
I learn something new every time! That use of the “Difference” blend mode will be really useful.
Thanks as always for all you do,
Vinny
It is a good one! Glad I could teach you a new trick!
I have had problems getting photos aligned in CS6. Now that I see what Difference shows I should be able to get everything aligned and with less frustration. Thanks for another useful tip.
Very helpful tip as always! Hope I can remember enough of the video to use it down the road.;-)
Great Helpful Video Blake. Thanks!! 🙂
No problem!
Blake, every time I watch your tutorials, I learn another way to help make my photos easier to process. Thank you.
I have used the difference setting for aligning but not with auto-align.
This is very good to know. Thank you.
Sometimes the auto align feature gets confused. I think the chromatic aberration was the culprit in this image.
Awesome video Blake!! Always a pleasure to watch and learn something new. Thanks so much!!
Thanks for watching, Sue! I do appreciate the feedback.
Hi Blake,
Great video, but I didn’t catch how you moved it over to match. Did you use the move key tool or something else. Must sound like a silly question but just didn’t quite catch what you did.
Thanks! Not a silly question. Yep, the move tool. Press and hold shift and it will align them from the center initially.
I have PS CS6. Yo mention CC a lot in your videos. Am I going to get as much out of your series if I don’t have CC?
Thanks. Love all your videos!
Kay
I do mention CC a lot, that is the latest and greatest! If I do something that is strictly CC related I usually mention it. Most things you can do with CS5 or CS6 other than using ACR as a filter.
