Where do I begin with selling my photography?

If you have ever emailed me and asked me that question, you have probably received a less than ideal response.  I know you come to me for many things, and most of them I have an answer to.  But the truth is, I don’t sell my work.  It’s not because I don’t want to or that it’s not good enough. It’s because that is a whole business in and of itself that I do not have time for with all the education I produce.

So how do I respond to that one?  Usually like this, “Talk to my friend Jason Matias. He knows the Art of Selling Art, heck, he practically wrote the book!”

Jason Matias has grown to be a good friend of mine in the industry, and I trust his art sales advice more than anyone I know.  Why do you ask?  Not only because he has the sales receipts to prove it, but because he is an open book with his students and leaves no question unanswered.

Over the last ten years, he’s been selling his work and has several collectors and has worked with some of the highest quality art exhibitions in the country.  He shares his successes and failures in his membership group, “The Art of Selling Art.”

A few weeks ago, Jason and I were talking, and I mentioned that several users of f.64 Elite were asking me about selling art via email.  So I referred them to Jason’s membership program, but these individuals were apprehensive about joining his site due to the expense and not knowing if it would be too advanced for them.

I reached out to Jason and asked him if he could do a straightforward course on how to sell art.  Like a no-BS system that explained the pros and cons of working in every facet of art sales.  What he produced was remarkable, especially for anyone wanting to get started in art sales today!

You can learn about his new course in our discussion below.  Here is a quick glimpse and the topics he will cover:

  • Working with Galleries
  • Adding Art Licensing to your business
  • Working with art reps and consultants
  • Working with designers
  • Selling in Online Marketplaces (i.e., Fine Art America)
  • Direct Patronage
  • Selling at Art Fairs and Festivals
  • Selling on the NFT Market
  • Marketing and Paid Advertising

As an added bonus, I also put our original webinar together here so you can see where this course idea originated.
