HDR INSIDER Monthly Project Winner!

This Month the members of HDR Insider were assigned a color related project due to the release of the Color Zone System.  I crossed my fingers hoping the entries would not be over-saturated.  Luckily, there were no over saturated images…phew!

The Insiders Rock, here are the Winner and the Runner’s Up!

With the introduction to the Color Zone System earlier this month, I thought it suiting to make a color related Project.  I will say that I was expecting some hyper-saturation, however, that did not happen!  I am glad!

The entries were all so great as usual.  I had to dig pretty deep and ask myself several questions while looking at them for judging purposes:

  1. How well was the image tone mapped?
  2. Processed?
  3. How creative was color or color manipulation used?
  4. If there was color manipulation, how successful was it?
  5. Was there color bleeding due to excessive color saturation?

After running through all of the possible questions and walking away, and revisiting several times, I came to a difficult conclusion.  There was something about this image the second I saw it that really struck a fine cord in me.  I loved the Earth tones and the very successful use of color manipulation.  At first glance I could have sworn the original image was an Autumn paradise.  DMOJOMAN is the winner of this month’s project and the winner of the Beyond The Wheel:  The Color Zone System Training Package!  Here are the details on the process:

This is my first project. I used Photomatix 5, Photoshop CC, Nik’s Color Efex Pro. I tried to make the image appear as if it was later in the Fall with more yellows and browns.

Runner-Up #1:  I really liked the Sepia toned look in this photo.  This is on my Mother’s property so it already makes me miss home.  The use of the Sepia taps into my memories.  Very successful usage.

Runner-Up #2:  I really liked the successful play of light and dark in this submission, it creates a great sense of depth.  I also like the handling of the colors.
