I had no clue just how powerful Photoshop was for video until I started experimenting with its capabilities.  It all started a couple of weeks ago when I purchased a Panasonic X920 Camcorder.  I had heard great things about its video quality and I was in the market to do some video recording for some upcoming training videos (in production now).

A problem arose when I found out it recorded in .mts format not .mp4.  I bought a program to convert it, but my $37 investment turned out to be a crapshoot.  Back to the drawing board.  Then, in a fit of desperation, I dragged and dropped the .mts file into Photoshop… IT WORKED!

So now I had to do some playing.  I was able to figure out things in Photoshop that other programs I owned simply could not do half as well or nearly half as fast.  Did you know that Photoshop could edit video?  Or should I say edit it so well!  Here are just some of the things I will show you in this video:

  1.  The basics of the “Timeline palette”
  2. Setting up your Workspace for Video
  3. Trimming Video
  4. Adding Transitions
  5. The basics of Video Groups
  6. Adding Adjustment Layers to Videos (an extremely powerful feature!)
  7. Video Rendering to MP4

Be sure to watch the videos below in HD 1080p

The video you see here was created using the features in Photoshop for Video

In this video tutorial I will show you the basics of video editing in Photoshop and flaunt some of its power!
